i'm lookin at a set of 17" wheels on cl. they are 17x7 and 17x8 et35. i've got 20mm spacers. will this work? what tires would be good if it will work,

17x7 will fit with no mods and the 20mm spacers

the 17x8 will fit with the spacers, but might require fender rolling depending on the tyres you run.
