    Tire fitment question

I am in need of tires on the Kopis and I would like to get a 235/40/17 in either the yoko avs sport or es100.
    Will I be able to mount a 235 on a 7.5 inch wheel? I know the e36 m3 had 235s on a 7.5 inch wheel.

Yokohama doesn't recommend it. You'll definitely have to do some serious fender rolling to get them to fit also.

It'll fit on the rim fine, but those Kopis are ET20. As Brew said, your fenders are going to need to be HEAVILY massaged. Even with 215's, guys with Kopis sometimes run into fender trouble.

I have already taken care of the fenders. 245s wouldn't be a problem if I had a wider wheel :D I would run into problems with strut clearance though with 245s with the 20mm offset.
So, that being said I should be fine with the 235/40/17 avs sports for my wheels?

measured rim width for those tires is 8.5"- minimum is 8".

considering that and that the tire size in question is almost 2% too big, i wouldn't go for it, myself.

nitto makes the 555 in a 225/40-17 that'd be a better choice IMO.

Word to the wise (I did a lot of research on this over the winter while waiting to throw on my 17's): Get 245/35/17 tires. They are exactly stock diameter and really not any wider than 235/40/17 on a 7.5" wheel, and they do not bubble out at all. What causes the rubbing with the 235's can be significantly attributed to the oversized rolling diameter. Ryan G. had that exact setup on his car actually, and reported no sidewall weakness.

Not going with Nittos...having had experience with those pos tires I won't do it again.

Now, on another note. Could someone explain to me how 235s fit just fine on the e36 m3s 17x7.5 inch wheels?

                  Do the math:

245/35/17 tires are exactly the same diameter as stock.
                  235/40/17 is oversized.
The 245's don't run any wider than 235's on a 7.5" wide rim.

Therefore, you'll have less trouble fitting the 245/35/17 under your fenders than the 235's. And they are still fine on 7.5" wheels, don't listen to the masses who have never seen it done.

I know what tirerack says and what people are saying here. However, I know for a fact the e36 m3 has 235s on a 7.5 inch wheel from the factory.

yeah, my brother is running 235's on his 328. He has M3 double-spoke wheels.

for exactly one model year, '95.

after that they went to staggered, 225 on 7.5" and 245 on 8.5".

                          probably worth thinking about why.

Was there a factory bulletin and safety recall on replacing all '95 M3 tires with 225/45/17's?

                            Then shutup.

I believe bmw went to the staggered setup to add understeer or something for american customers. Not positive on that though.

I need to make a decision on this though.
                              Thanks for the input guys.
