i used a similar method when i did mine, it's really pretty easy.

I used a torch then tapped it off, but this works much faster! Too bad I am all done =)

it's my understanding that using heat is bad and can change the properties of the aluminum.

Anything over a couple hundred degrees is probably not the greates idea on aluminum.
