Can a 225 width tire fit on a 7" rim?

I am thinking of buying some new wheels, that are 7" wide. I have 225/45/16 AVS ES100's that I would like to throw on them. Will it fit?

it will fit, you just may have some rubbing issues from the wider rubber. My jetta came stock with 225s on 7 inch wide rims.

sure, although the contact patch will be smaller than they would be on a larger rim, and you won't have as much sidewall support.

The rim width range on that tire is 7-8.5.

I have 225/45-16 on my car on a 7" et40 wheel with 15mm spacers. You could probably get away with 11-12mm spacers without rubbing problems on your strut... err... thats at least my experience. If i had more of a drop I'd be ripping the shit out of my unrolled fenders. You just want to stick around 25mm offset.
