    Widest Cheapest lightest setup

So I am on a hunt for wider and bigger wheels.
The wheels will be for an autocross car.
SO what would you guys recommend. I am looking into something in a 16x9 or 17x9 sizes to run 245 or 255 tires. I will be adding flares to clear them. But first I need to find a set of wheels

Your title states it. Its just like the turbo rule of 2/3.

You can have wide and cheap, but not light.

        Well cheap is relatively speaking.
I am basically talking about not going with full custom wheels.

Add in the $300-400 you'll need for 35mm 4x100 to 4x100 adapters and it's not quite so cheap.

I'd go with the Team Dynamics wheels. Can be ordered in custom offsets/hub bore/bolt patterns, realtively light (for the price), and TONS of room for brakes.

17x8.5 ET ~17ish with 245/40/17s would be a nice setup. Check with Mystikal on my offset determination.

Exactly. Just like skis, tripods or a myriad of other things.

Cheap, light, performance. Pick any 2.

17x8 ET25 235/40/17 makes a nice fitting wheel, with lots of sticky tires in that size. Well really only sticky/race tires in that size.

Unless you're just making a ton of power or something like that (or looking for strech) I'd do the setup I just mentioned.

Buy some of the APEX wheels. Cheap, lightweight, fit big brakes and big sticky tires.

Just a reference, the Apex wheels do not fit with the Massive race front kit. They interfere with the calipers on the inside edge.

imho there is no point in getting 17x8 wheel to only run 235 tire when you can run a quality/sticky 225 tire on 15x8?

15x10 would be the ideal size as there is a 275/35 sticky tire in that size, but the wheels are limited. you'll either have to buy the above mentioned $200 wheels and add $ for adapters/spacers OR pay about $500+ per wheel for custom size / spec wheel .
