    Stock 14" Basket Refinishing

I've decided to get my stock wheels which are in very poor condition refinished professionally. They don't seem to have any curb damage however the chrome finish is in dire need of some attention (chrome has bubbled and is begining to chip off). I think they were refinished once before but not certain.

Has anyone refinished their stock wheels? Any advice?

Why would you need advice if you are having them professionally done? Drop them off, pick them up when they are done.

          touché.

It's more expensive than I thought. Looks like I'll be in the market for a new or aftermarket set.

You can always just take them to a powdercoating shop, have them sandblasted and powdercoated silver

How much have the prices been that you've gotten so far?

I have a shop that strips and PC's em for $75 a wheel and they don't blast them they chem strip them in Aluminum friendly liquid.

On second note it's not really worth refinishing 14" units anyway. Buy new from www.tirerack.com cheapie Borbet's.

A local shop is asking $150 a pop which imo seems kinda high. Haven't been to any others.

I can get em done for about $200 for the whole set. That is prepped and powder coated.

Talk to a guy named John at the American Tire Depot on Hollywood Blvd. (between Western & Normandie) in Los Angeles. Honest, straight up guy. My neighbor messed up a rim on his new Jag so I referred him to John, who referred him to a place. I think the place charged $75 / wheel. My neighbor is very happy with the work and the price and this my neighbor is pretty hard to please when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Is it really worth dropping $300 on a set of stock weaves?

                          Exactly my thought.

I agree, I wouldn't drop $300 on stock weaves either. But the original poster has already made the decision, and since they already have a set of 14" weaves, then dropping $300 to have them refinished to "like-new" is the best decision. Used 14" weaves in excellent condition typically fetch $300 on eBay (that's what I got for mine). But "excellent condition" still isn't as good as wheels that have been refinished.

But yeah, if it was me, I'd keep saving and get a set of Ronal LS 15s. But it ain't my decision

Well, having a wheel "refurbished" and having a wheel "powdercoated" are 2 different things. Powdercoating is just putting a new coat of 'paint' if you will on the rims. They don't fix bent rims or curbrash and such. Refurbishing rims is having them straightened, trued, fixed curb rash and scratches, and a new painted finish. It costs about $400/set to have that done, and $200-300 a set for powdercoating.
