You'll be happy with those! They are an older tire, but still very good. The Dunlop star spec is a little better in wet and dry than the S.Drive (not sure if it comes in the size you wanted though) and a little more expensive. S.Drive is still a good tire, much better than the crap like Nexen and the like...

225/45 maintains diameter, increases width by 15.4%, maintains circumference, decreases sidewall height by 20% and maintains revolutions per mile. It has only a 0.01mph reduction which will add up to 0.02mph up to 65mph.

205/50 increases diameter by 0.4%, increases width by 5.1%, increases circumference by 0.4%, decreases sidewall height by 19% and reduces revolutions per mile by 0.4%. It increases mph accuracy by .08mph which will add up to .25mph up to 65mph.

    2.5mm height difference between 225/45 and 205/50.

All numbers compared to 195/65 14.

Can't beat $400 shipped for a name brand tire.

The main reason for my preference of 225/45 is more meat on the pavement as it does make a noticeable difference on the mountain roads we frequent but for DD its overkill.

But all the OGs I run with swear that 45 profile provides the "correct circumference" on a 16 inch wheel. Never took the time to actually measure the height.

PS. I went with 205/50 over 225/45 for two reasons. First reason is there's much more selection in the 205, other reason is I don't want the overly beefy tire look on the car. I will space them out to the fenders for a mice flush fit. FYI the 205/50 and 225/45 are the same height.

I've had the Ziex 912 and they lasted about 30,000 miles of hard street driving. They were very good daily driver tires with a reasonable amount of noise (in a good way), and were inexpensive.

I like the hankook hrIIs that i have on my turbo car. Its amazing how hard it is to break the tires even with 15lbs of boost. They have them in a 45 and a 50 series. I use onlinetires.com and they are local.

205/50 is a much more common size to find so many tire sites list it as the "+2 wheel size tire"

If you follow progression its 195/65/14 205/55/15 then 205/45/16

I would look into Maaxis tires. They have pretty good reviews and so far I've been nothing but impressed with them for the money.

Maaxis Victra Z4S - Great all season performance tire, good treadwear, and quiet. My wife has these on her 02 325i. For the money they are awesome and ride just as nice as her Michelin's did. She's had them for a year with no issues.

    OR

    Maaxis MA-V1

205-45-16 or 225-45-16 (45 is the actual correct size for a 16 on an E30)

I run the 225-45-16 on my 16x7.5 ACS Wheels. They look the part and they handle great for the price. Worn them on the Tail of the Dragon 3 times now and they are hard to break loose in the summer and still not that easy in cooler conditions. Had mine for a little over 18 months with no issues.

Don't do it. They get insanely noisy after not much wear and aren't that great in the rain. I bought them once when I was in a financial bind and will never do it again.

However, I am currently running the Sumitomo HTRs and love them. Not sure if they are available in the size you want, but if so they are a great bang for the buck tire. I've put about 12K miles on them so far (4 rotations) and they are still going strong...I'd say 60% tread left on my camber-crazed car.

edit: They are available in your size and are $30 cheaper than the ZRi. Not to mention they have the same user rating.

Is there a reason why your going with 205/50 rather than 225/45? Just curious, I am due for tires as well and just wanted some schooling.

^ if they still make the k106 it was a good tire when I ran it. Good grip and nice sidewall.
