Details released on Dunlop's Star Spec replacement

Some of you may have heard rumors of Dunlop releasing a replacement for the star specs, or saw that they are on close-out now at most tire retailers. Well one of the guys at the Tire Rack released some details about the new tire, dubbed the ZII.

Pricing through Tire Rack on a couple sizes:

    185/60R14 $129
    195/50R15 $123
    205/50R15 $113
    215/40R17 $167
    235/40R17 $192
    255/40R17 $182

They are due to be on sale in Feb. of 2013. According to Dunlop they are about 1.7% faster on a road course, very curious to see how well they do for ST classes in autoX. Just wish they would make a 225/15! But at those prices, I am pretty confident I know what tires I will be getting next. More info here:

The star specs are $131 a piece in 205/50/15 on Tire Rack, if the ZII is really going to be $113 a piece for the same tire I'm sold.

sucks there are basically no high performance 225/50s in 15". I've basically given up and am thinking I'll have to move to 17" wheels for the street.

I'm praying they bring in the 225/45r16.

17" on the street kinda sucks, the small sidewall really blows on rough roads :/

Both the Hankook RS3 and Toyo R1R come in 225/45/15, which I'm sure you know. Is that little extra bit of sidewall a big deal? But I do agree, there's a great selection in 205/50/15, just wish there was more of a selection for 225/15's.

Check that link. Those are the sizes available in Japan, hopefully most of them will be brought stateside as well.

Basically a couple different aspect ratios for 205 and 225/16.

at least they're good and cheap for 14" tires - Ive got Z1's on my weaves and they cost 160ea with mounting, balancing, road hazard and tax.
