    Anyone with experience trading wheels?

What's the best (safest) way to do it without being able to meet the other seller in person?
I thought about having each person pay for shipping for the wheels they want via paypal, that way there is some documentation. Then just ship like normal and provide each other with the appropriate tracking numbers.
I've got some wheels that I may trade with someone but I've never traded before and want to make sure I don't get screwed obviously.

Depending on where this person is. If fairly local, I would much rather meet in person at a tire shop and have all wheels checked out for bends and stuff. That way, you dont lose you wheels and get bent wheels in return, or worse, ship out your wheels and never get anything.

Paying shipping via paypal doesnt protect you from anything. If he pays you $100 to ship and he never sends you anything in return, Paypal would only cover you for the $100 you lost and not the value of the wheels

I've done lots of wheel sales and trades and I got to tell you, shipping trades can be really really risky and sketchy. Hope that helps

Yeah I know that paypal wouldn't cover anything other than the amount transferred, I was just thinking more of a documentation thing. I would much rather meet someone in person but this is more of a long distance thing. I'm not even sure if it will go through yet, just trying to get some ideas in case.

One idea I had would be to have the guy buy my wheels and I would ship them out, then once he received them I would basically buy his wheels with the money he sent me. That way you couldn't really get screwed because you would have received the product you paid for. Plus then you can actually use paypal correctly.

^ I was about to say the same thing. That would actually work granting your wheels are of the same value. But either way, its doable.

On the other note, what wheels are we talking about anyway? just curious

I have traded several things of value (few hundred dollars worth of stuff), and I always make other people send their item first.

                  I always get

                  Name
                  Address
                  Number.

If they are down for the paying for the wheels thing then I would do it that way.

The other guy will think the same thing which leads to a stale mate.

                    Here's a thought....

                    1. you each send the other an invoice for the same amount listing what you each are selling in detail and "as per pics provided". In the notes section you say "sale conditional on seller buying xyz from buyer for $xxx as per invoice of today". This way you are each committed, no one has sent money til the transaction is documented thru paypal.

                    2. then you both send cash before anyone has shipped.

                    3. Once you are each paid you can both ship.

Step by step in synch to limit the exposure. In the end there has to be some element of good faith or you walk away.
