I'm running federal SS-595s and i'm pretty happy with them. They are as wide as my 275 falken 452s. They also come in a 265/40 but i did not know that when ordered them. I'm only at 300 foot lbs of torque so they are fine for now. I would not run my BBS' on the track except for maybe an auto x. Its cheaper to get a set XXRs then it is to replace one of my barrels.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Federal 595 RS-R
Toyo R1R, RA1, R888
and Dunlop D01J are the tyres I have had experience with. All are super sticky road legal tyres, average tread wear is about 120 or less and run true to width.
Most passenger tyres you buy aren't actually as wide as they indicate on the size. It's largely due to design and construction and it's not so important on a passenger car. But for semi race spec tyres which people run in production class racing, the extra 15-20mm makes a huge difference. Take for example most of your 235 rubber, the actual tread width can vary from as little as 210mm to 225mm for most tyres, If you compare it with the tyres above you'll find they run right to 235mm.
I imagine most of the motorsport tyres from other companies will be the same, so any of their stuff they list as street legal for motorsport use will generally run as wide as possible. So things like yokohama advan A048 and Nitto NT01's will probably be the same.
No, not really. You can sometimes see the difference if they list the physical width, but a lot of manufacturers don't list this or it's just generic information based on the size not the physical tyre. It's just what I know from driving on and fitting these sorts of tyres. If I have some 255's at work ill stand them next to the RS-R's above and you can see what I mean.
If you are running 595SS, the RS-R's run a little wider again.I'm running federal SS-595s and i'm pretty happy with them. They are as wide as my 275 falken 452s.
