16s vs 17s

Nando is right. Unfortunately 17 inch wheels come in Japanese multi lugs and offsets, and are fugly. I don't know why Bmw doesn't commission some good looking 4x100, 30-20mm offset, 57.1 cb wheels to be produced for the E21 / / E30. After all, the E21 / E30 is what put them on the map. Damn, I was hoping to go 16 next wheel setup, but 17s I guess is the way to go.Leave a comment:

Luckily my car is a track car, so the sizes I want are usually available. If you want cheap rubber, or street rubber, you run out of options quickly :(Leave a comment:

When I had my 16x9 finding a good quality tire in the size I wanted was harder than I thought.
I have no issues finding good tires for the 17" wheels.Leave a comment:

Chris, my only reason for going with 17" over 16" is the tire selection. Its a bummer 16" tires are getting hard to find and I only assume it will get more difficult.Leave a comment:

^ I recently noticed how cheap 17" tires can be. I was quite surprised. I may look into a set soon.Leave a comment:

16" look good but tire selection is pretty poor, at least if you care about performance more than looks.
17" have way more tire sizes and choices, often for the same price. it's just economics.. unfortunately, even 15" selection is getting really small, which will force some people to upgrade wheel sizes if they want the latest high performance tires in close to OEM-diameters.
what I really want is a 4-lug 17x8, ET33 wheel that weighs 15lbs or less for under $1000 a set, and not fugly as hell. I'm probably dreaming though.Leave a comment:

IMHO, 16's look best. Not to small, not to big. It is fair to say that finding 16 size tires takes some effort. I run 16x9, et 15, with 225/45/16 on all four corners. Tire brand is Nexen N3000. Car is lowered 1.5 inches and no rub lock to lock. This tire size fits the wheel perfectly with no stretch. Not hating on stretch just not my style. I prefer more tire then wheel.
I was trying to run 225/50/16 but there was hella rub and there was to much tire for the look of car.

I recently purchased some 17" staggered fit wheels. 16"s just seem too small for my look. But I say "do you!" Too many people give bs opinions.Leave a comment:

I have 17's, I like em. 16's are hard to find a large selection of tires for, whereas 17's have lots of sizing in many different tires, but are not as easy to fit as 16s. Kind of a toss up, just buy something nice, not no-name off-brand cheap ass crap.Leave a comment:

If you're going to paint your wheels black - it really doesn't matter.Leave a comment:

My preference is 16" max. That's just my preference.
