Why are my Kopis binding on the brake pads?

I'll trade you my custom low-profile duralast pads for your hawks. ;) Only a little bit dusty. -
I thought there is no way they could be installed correctly for me to have this problem, but after having the wheel off, I don't see how it could be done incorrectly. The pad is located on the brake disc exactly where it should be. I will probably pull the caliper tomorrow morning to investigate further.Originally posted by EurospeedDo you have the pads installed correctly? I've never heard of anyone having this problem before.
(same problem on both front wheels)
edit: pads are Hawk HP+, but that shouldn't matter.Leave a comment:

Bad idea, I know. I haven't had the time to check to see how much material actually needs removed to fix the problem. I wouldn't have a problem taking just a sliver off of the backing plate, but if it's bad, I'll have to put the wheels on a mill I suppose.Originally posted by asubimmer
btw I wouldn't go dremeling brake pads

yep the prob is the kopis...they are terrible. Just send them to me...I know a guy that recycles them and makes coke cans out of them. I'll even send you a few ;)

Why are my Kopis binding on the brake pads?
Is this normal? The bottom of the outside front brake pads (side facing hub) is rubbing on the wheel around the circumference of the backside that contacts the hub/brake disc. I hope I am being clear enough.
I changed brake pads last fall and installed the stock basketweaves at the same time. I just installed the Kopis and now I have this issue. Obviously the problem is the new pads, but they are the correct pad. The only difference is that they are fatter since they are new. Is this something that happens to everyone that I don't know about, or is there another piece to the puzzle that I am missing? I am going to have to dremel the pad backing plates or the wheels unless there is something else wrong that I don't know about.
FWIW it's a 91 318is.
