    polished lips

My plan as of now is to do silver spokes w/ a polished lip on these bad boys:

However, after reading/searching through mounds and mounds of r3v threads, it seemed like they will start rusting, need clearcoat which will yellow and peel, or need to be repolished weekly. However, they are common enough that I can't believe there is no practical way to have polished lips.

Also, I found information on how to polish wheels, but I can't remember which forum it was on and have been unable to find it thus far.

What's the procedure/ingredients for polishing lips?
What's the best procedure for maintaining the polish?

Most polished wheels that come from manufacturers is going to be clearcoated. If you keep them cleaned then you shouldn't have problems with it yellowing (or at least not until they are old). The clearcoat will take a bit of the shine away, but not very much. I recommend going this route to avoid polishing all the time.

If you do not clearcoat them you are going to regularly need to repolish them. It wont be as hard as the original polish, just a little upkeep. I don't think they will rust if you keep them cleaned, but somebody else may be able to answer the rust part better.

They will rust and oxidize if you leave them bare, you will probably have to do a bit of a repolish at least every 2 weeks.

There's a product called "ZOOP seal" which is used to protect polished surfaces' Its not cheap BUT last a VERY long time from what I've heard.
I hand polised the swing arm on my motorcycle a few years back. Started off with course sandpaper and worked my way up to 1500 grit wet then used mother polish and came out awesome. Depending on the condition on the surface depicts what grit you need to start with. Sometime you can just use some gritty compound's instead on sandpaper
