    Narrow 235-40-17 or wide 215-40-17?

    Hey,
I'm running a set of BBS RX 17x7.5 et25 A(or 20 I don't remember) on my 88 325i lowered on bavauto springs. 215/40/17 front and 235/40/17 rear Z1s (rear fenders are rolled). I find the fronts look undersized and the rear too beefcake.

Are there any grippy/summer tires out there that you would recommend that either size big or small?

Looking at azenis r 615k right now, I know these used to size small way back in the day.

    Thanks!

If it were me, I'd go with a wide 215/40/17 on a 7.5J unless you dig the beefcake look on 17's.

Federal 595SS or Evo are good/inexpensive and run wide. With 7.5J a true 215/40 would be fine as well though.

Also interested in 215/40s. The best I found that I can order through my work is the 615k.

Please don't do Federals. I believe the Federals on my car are why I crashed it, completely unpredictable.

The Nexen N3000 is the widest 215/40/17 I have ever seen. Its an inch wider on the ground than the Federal 595s and doesn't completely suck.

                Closing SOON!

I've had the Nexen and the Federal and I liked both for the money.

                  I'd definitely go with a 215/40 on a 7.5" wheel.

Federal's summer line of tires are absolutely fantastic for the price. The old "595" is the cheapest and oldest design, and is still leagues better than the Wanli/Linglong/Nexen/etc stuff in its price range. I've autocrossed on these, and once took FTD on them. The 595 Evo is a modern bargain summer tire (compare to Hankook V12, Yoko S.drive, etc). 595RS-R a legitimate cheap extreme performance option.

I have a hard time buying more expensive tires today. Stock can be an issue, but other than that Federals are legit.

I ran some 595s ages ago and was very impressed with them for the price. Coincidentally, I also crashed that car on those tires, but it was my fault for being a dumbass and I'm not about to blame the tires for my error.
