It might be possible to stick those tires on, but I would doubt it.

For a 17x7 wheel, 215/40-17 fits the best. Good width, and almost the exact rolling diameter as stock.

205/40-17 will also fit, but it is a little bit narrow. If you tap a curb, the rim will touch, not the tire. Fine if you aren't looking for the maximum performance.

215/45-17 is oversized. If you don't have the perfect offset wheel, you will rub the inside of the rear quarterpanels, the tires will catch the front fender lips, and will also rub on the plastic brake duct backing plate thing in front of the front tires...
    (ask me how I know)

      No, it won't fit.

      205/45 or 215/40.

225/40 is closer to stock spec according to one of the online tire size calculators. I will be using that size when my 215/40's are due for a change. It seems to be a hard tire to find in that size but I found some Nitto's NT555 Extreme all weather with a speed rating W for $115.30 currently.

I have the same size rims on my car. ANd I have wanted to put some new rubber on besides the 205/40/17's that came with the rims. Can I put 235/40/17 in the back only?

So will 215/40-17 fit on 17x7 under my wheel wells with no suspension mods? Or should I go ahead and suffer with these bottlecaps until after my suspension is done?

It all depends on the offset of the wheels. I wish people would understand this.

Okay 235/40/17 is a little much. I have a guy here at work who drives a honda s2000 and its got nice rear tires. I took the time to check them out and they're 225/40/17's. Surely I can put these on my car!? I felt the gap between my tire and the rear shock, and there is definately more than 3/4". I'm only increasing the diameter of the tire about 12.5 mm on each side. That's roughly a 1/2" correct? So theoretically, won't these fit on the rears?

Like I said, it depends on the offset of the wheel. What offset are your wheels?

225/40 is an odd size and there's only about 2 tires sold in that size.

matt, did your 235/40/17 tires on the Kopis fit without any problems? im finding out for myself recently that 225/40 is almost impossible to find, and 215/40/17 is too narrow for my Kopis, i keep curbing the rims...

No. Heavy rear rolling is needed and front rolling is needed if you have a decently low car. The problem with the Kopi's is the offset is a little too low. With the right offset 245's will fit with little to no rear rolling and no front. I am actually pulling the 235's off tomorrow and selling them so I can buy some 215's.

                          That's funny Matt.

I'm running 225's on ET20, unrolled fenders. Never touched even once. Too bad it didn't work out for you, my bad.

Hey, I'm not blaming anyone. I wanted to give it a try regardless. No big deal. I have somebody willing to give me enough for the used 235's to satisfy me.

Speaking of that, what's the word on the Hankook Ventus Sport K104 tires? Any good?

They're on the fence. Pilot Spot knockoffs, but didn't quite come out as good.

If you have to back down to 215's, at least get something GOOD. RT-615's would be my choice.
