    Stick with the basics. A 15x8 +20 can fit a 225/45 no problem and that is basically the biggest size you're going run on any rival/nt01/rs3/starspec/r888/etc.

    Now with the setup stated you can also run any take-off spec e30/miata tire for cheap as stated by a user above. For example, I can currently get a complete set of Toyo RRs with ~70% tread remaining for around $100.

    With an 8 inch +20 you can run both 225 and 205 without worrying about stretching tires and spacers and all that.

    Your biggest limiting factor isn't whether an 8 inch is more competitive than a 9 inch or vice versa, it is how much seat time you actually have.

      What kind of wheels do you have? do you have any spacers? what's your setup, can you share that info or is it a secret?

        How much seat time do you have? If none, start by familiarizing yourself with the car as it is and focus on making it reliable for track use. If you have several AutoX and/or track days under your belt already, you should be looking at tires first.

          He runs 15x8 +20 TRM C1s and so do I. No spacers needed. An 8 will support sidewalls better than a 7, if you're not limited to 7s due to classing rules there's literally no reason not to do an 8. Every tire will be faster on the 8, 205, 225, doesn't matter.

          I've run 225 RS3s and many 205/50 R-comps on my 15x8s, they have all fit quite squarely. A 205 street tire will be a little stretched on an 8 but will still be faster than on a 7.

          All of this said, seat time should be what you're focusing on as a beginner. Get the car to where it won't break and improve your skills before you throw a bunch of money at tires.

            Thank you so much for the info. I have ZERO time on the seat at a track. I'm going to take your advice and start building my car to be reliable. I'm planning to get steal breaded brake lines. any ideas which ones i should get or where i should purchase them from?
