    Can't mount a 205/50/16 on my car

I'm disappointed. I ordered a set of tires threw Americas tires last week and after they arrived, I got a phone call saying they can't mount a 205/50/16 on my 16x8 wheel because it's "not what our system recommends". I begged them to mount it but they said they couldn't because of liability issues. They talked me into going with a 215/50, lets hope they'll look right on the car.

There being helpful, and I under stand the "liability issue" but come on man, It not like a 205/50/16 is a stretched tire! Anyone have any issues in the past mounting a 205/50? I know its a fairly standard choice around here for 16's.

Edit: Basically made this thread to get recommendations on a good tire size/ if a 215/50 will look fine.

    a 205 on a 8" is pretty stretched...

215/45 looks reasonable and fits properly on a 8". looks like rivals and azenis are available in that size.

but to answer your question more directly, there are shops that will do it on el camino in san carlos, but they'll usually waive any responsibility and may ask for it to be a cash-only transaction.

Damn there's not many choices for a 215/45 unfortunately. And to think I bought 16" wheels for more tire choices :o

Here's a pic of a 205/50/16 tire I was running a year or so back, no fuss on having it mounted I felt is was the perfect sidewall hight.

I had my valve stem tear from being sun-dried (I think that's what caused it), and they didn't want to replace it because my tire was near the wear-bar lol.

And it wasn't like I brought the car with the flat - I physically brought them the wheel in my other car and they refused. I sweet talked the manager enough for him to de-bead the tire and let me install the stem itself. Put air in it at a gas station down the street.

I would of just taken the tires and installed them at a mom and pop shop. The local one here charges $5 per tire installation and $2/ea. for balancing.

I went into americas tires and told them my car, that I wanted the stock size which I read to him. I gave him all the info. He went out to my car, saw that I had snow tires mounted (which are narrower than standard) and said that the tire size I wanted was not stock/oem. I had just driven from snow country to california so I informed him that snow tires are a thing, it's why it says freakin WINTER on the side, and that the size I requested is the correct size. He can even see it on his screen because he looked up my car. Then I noticed the receipt I got said "customer requests non original tire size"

Why not just go to an independent shop? Not sure how it is in california, but on the other side of the country I bring them the tires, they mount them, I pay up, and everyone's happy.

^That's probably my best bet if I'm not happy with the 215/50. I just found it so strange they mounted a 205/50 on 3 sets of wheels for me over the past 2 years and now there making such a fuss about it.

I've been running 205/50/16 since I bought my RKs from Tire Rack in about 2003 and that's the size they recommended and mounted but I'm not 8" wide. The last few years I've been dealing with Discount and for a while they wouldn't remove or replace my wheels due to the spacers not being anchored to the rotors so I had t ferry my wheels to them. Obviously some law suit was pending cause now they don t care...so yes to liability being a big deal

Lol noob tire shops. I had my 205/50/16 put on my style no problems. Once I wanted some tires stretched the guy said alright and brought out his cheetah with no problem.

I had issues finding people willing to do 205/45/16 on an 8", which once mounted is honestly not stretched at all, its pretty much square. So a 205/50 is by no means stretched on an 8" rim. But, on the legal side of things it isn't a recommended tyre size.

I ended up taking the tires to a separate shop and they mounted them on no issues. I think its the perfect size tire for the wheel, doesn't have the "hella" stretch style, nor the stock 7 series ballooned tire look. Need to drop the car still but a 1.8" drop should suit the tire size nicely
