You are aware that the aspect ratio is a percentage of the tire's width, right?

A 185/55R16 will have the EXACT SAME sidewall size as a 225/45R16. Both tires being a match for OEM spec circumference and diameter. Because the e30 overall diameter size of 24 inches is not widely used anymore, I imagine he also searched for a 185/60R16 because it's easier to find slightly oversized tires because modern cars use larger tires.

"such tall sidewalls..." and "if your not running stretched tires then your fitment isn't the best" :loco: best for what? where the hell do you get these ideas?

What is the fascination with running narrow, grossly undersized tires on wide wheels that don't fill the wheel well at all, and looks like a ghetto hoopty car?

And this guy wants stupidly narrow tires because he only wants to run a 7" wide wheel with stretch tires, another silly idea at that.

Only option for stretching on a 16x7 is running a lotus elise front tire at 175/55R16.
whoa did i hit a sore spot? damn dude. i wasnt saying no stretch and your not cool or properly setup. what i was saying that if you want flush wheel fitment then stretched tires is a must. i also dont like a huge stretch. thats why i run a 215-40-16 on my 8s. what i am saying is why bother trying to stretch a tire on a 7? not worth it. and why run a 185 55 or 60 if a 225 45 is the same size side wall. i hate when people assume someone is one sided. i asked a question. thanks for informing me that the sidewalls are the same size. more reason to not even bother running a 185 if a 225 would work even better.......

all in all...to each there own. do you own fuckin thing

Undersized (width) tires FTL! If its less than a 195...keep it away from my cars. I roll 195/65/14 on 14x6.5 weaves in the winter and 215/50/15 (bumping up to a 225 next set of tires) on 15x7.5 Ronals.. I roll 225/45/16 on my 16x8s on turbo and thats perfect fitment.

true. when i speak of fitment im talking about flush fender to wheel.

225 IS the perfect size for an 8. your car is freaking hot. but i just prefer lower offsets.

I just try to make sure the right info is out there. It was your "fitment isn't the best without stretching" comment that I didn't like because it is misleading. You certainly don't need stretched tires to get a flush fitment, but it's the easiest way of doing it. I run flush wheels with no stretch at all. (specs in your fender flare question thread). All you need is a decently stiff susp. setup with nicely rolled fenders, larger diameter wheels to take advantage of the angle of the strut assembly up front, and the right offset. Sure, it is much easier to get wide wheels with a low offset and run stretched rubber if you just want that look.

Anyway, Zimmie just wanted a stretched tire on a 7" wheel for the look, which I thought was pretty obvious. I completely agree with you that it's a stupid idea (IMO), but I still helped him to find the only option he had in a size that skinny.

Like I said in a previous post. It doesn't matter what I or anyone else thinks, everyone should do what they want to their own car. That's why I told him I think it's stupid but still helped him find the only tire available for that setup.

Sorry for sounding like a dick, just try to only put out info that you know for fact.

The owner of the car certainly shouldn't. Problems arise when they don't like the criticism and lash out, and due to the spread of misinformation on the internet, conversations go in all sorts of crazy directions and people come up with some really stupid defenses that they tend to make up because they think it makes sense.

In the end, it doesn't matter matter what "internet communities" think or don't think. This comes down to a hobby for individual enthusiasts that can do whatever they like to their own car with their own money. Everyone just has to be ready to face criticism when sharing their ideas, because people criticize.

I agree BUT if you do something different or "extreme" to your car you'd better expect some criticism. But heres the problem. This board and many others bag on "ricers" if it's something they don't like yet these same guys are stretching 195's on 8" rims. A parallel with what a "ricer" would do. It becomes a double edge sword. I just wanted to make sure the double standard is clear.
I personally might be extreme with mods not being functional but that's my view.

                  Fender trimming > Tire Stretching.

                  Duh...

Why put 9 inch wide wheels on your car and stick 215s on them? That's so rice it's not even funny... There is NO performance benefit by doing that, in fact, it becomes somewhat of a safety hazard. If you want 9 inch wide wheels, get tires that fit them, and if they don't fit your car then start trimming and reshaping the arches. THATS Euro

Alright, it was a generalization... Your tires seem to fit well and don't look TOO stretched...

But from a performance standpoint, I woulda gone wider and trimmed whatever had to be trimmed.

Sold to a douche... *shakes head in sadness*
