would a e39 wheel fit an e30 if redrilled?

i was just wondering if anyone has gotten e39 wheels onto an e30.

    17x8 et20

if not, could it could be done with redrilling and running 215/40r17 tires?

since 5 lug swap is out of the question, too much $$, how safe is redrilling?

a wheel shop can probably do it fine. but I don't think it will be cheap.. and the centerbore is different too.

so what could be done about the center bore? redrill it bigger? or would the bore on the rim be bigger?

The bore on the rim is MUCH bigger.

I had a set of 5x120 wheels, looked at the back of them for a bit, and realized that a 4x100 57.1mm pattern on there wouldn't seem very safe. Decided to sell them rather than redrill.

i have never seen the rims, but im assuming hubcentric rings wouldnt work because they are made specifically for the e39 hub.
