    An interesting tire comparison.

My 185/70/14 Viking Snowtech vs. my new 225/50/15 Hankook R-S2 Z212:

    Slight difference, eh?

    Now, a 225/50/15 Falken ZE-512 vs. a 225/50/15 Hankook R-S2 Z212:

Looks like some fender rolling is in the cards. Can't wait to try these monsters out.

Yikes! I just got some RS2s for my E36, and the Hankooks looked WAY fatter than the Michelin Pilot Sports I have on the back. Eventually I'm gonna switch to RS2s all around, on all my cars!

Tire noob question here. Why is one wider if they are the same size? Is the rim wider on one of them?

there is no industry wide parity regarding tire sizes/ratings. brand a's 225 might be way wider then brand b's 225. like s03's vs es100s, or hoosiers (run sometimes 20-30mm wider).

              Thanks e30xcel.

The 225/50/15 Falken ZE-512 is only 8.9" wide on a 7" rim, basically the same as other 215 tires (like the 215/50/15 BFGoodrich G-Force Sport). All ZE-512's run about 10mm narrower than their quoted size. So it's not that the R-S2 is that wide (it's the same as other 225s), it's just that those Falkens run narrow.

As a side note, the steering feel difference when I went from the 185 winters to the 225 summers made me laugh like a pirate. Parking for the first few days felt like a manual rack.
