    AutoX Wheels/Tires

Anyone ever have a problem running 225/50-14 tires on either bottlecaps or factory baskets? Think i may need small spacers and rolled fenders.

No spacers, H&R sports, Bil sports, ST sways, M3 CAB.

You are going to feel like you are driving on balloons and when you turn the car will act for a second like its on ice. The problem is that the rim will float/sway around in the tire. General rule to follow is that you want to have apx. the contact minus 1 inch or so for your rims width. So a little bubble is ok but what you are trying to do is very extreme. Also, wether or not you upgraded the swaybars or have done anything to be able to make camber changes will have a large affect on how this combo will work. I would personally not go with anything smallet than a 7'' wide for a 225 but that is just my expierence and 2cents.

I forgot to mention that you will more than likley need spacers. Rolled fenders depends on how low you car is.

comment on sways was to say how much roll i would experience, if they are a close fit. camberplates are on the short list, only thing holding me back is that this car doubles as my daily driver.

I plan to find some baskets [14X6.5] and not use bottlecaps [14X6] but if i come across 7"ers that work with e30 fitment then ill certinly look into it. These tires are for next year so ive got time, its just that hoosier has them on a huge discount now and i would rather not pass it up.

            Thanks for the input!

              Um...no.

He means Hoosiers, not street tires. They will work fine on 6.5" wheels.

From what I understand, you will need some spacing on the front. I'm not sure as to how much though.

Okay, good! exactly what i needed to know. i hope the spacing is less than 3mm so i dont have to swap out lugs.

Cheades told me that you need to run a 5mm spacer up front to clear the strut and some minor fender massaging. His car is pretty low though. That is with Hoosiers on weaves. He doesn't need a front spacer with his RA-1s. Nando runs this setup on his ix as well. It seems to work great.

the hoosier specs call for a 6"-7.5" wheel for the 225/50-14 tires

bottlecaps are just fine. it will not feel like you're driving on "baloons". these are race tires not street tires. as long as you are within the design limits of the tire, I wouldn't even worry about how wide your wheels are. it's not going to make any difference.

id like some baskets just for ease of mounting/dismounting with a stiff sidewall. that and baskets look better, i know caps will work too.
