    225 45 16 in the PNW?

Moving to portland/seattle aera. I have es100 now on a set of k1's and love the hell out of them.

Really not looking to go with 215's cause I like the look of a tire that has a VERY square side wall.

    Tirerack has limited choices.

Only es100's (not so good in the wet) and a chaper Sumitomo HTR Z.

    Any real world advice appericated.

    ...

I have plenty of power with my m30b35 motor, and can handel a slippery curve, but wet breaking/hydo-planing really is my big factor in this...

    Thanks in advance!!!

Lots of choices http://edgeracing.com/tires/2254516/, I have the Ziex and they have been fine so far. If you want more grip go with something like theT1-R or RS-2.

Toyo T1R or the firestone ....forgot it's name. Kumho SPT is a very good rain tire.

You're the first person that I've seen not like the ES100's in the wet...although I hated that tire alltogether.

Why do you care? It doesn't rain up here anyways.

Please don't buy the Ziex 326 or the 512....the serious suck.

the manager at discount tire in my town claims he can order almost any tire made.

the guy at the local goodyear place told me he can get any size, les schwab told me the same thing but for their crappy tires.

        I wish dunlop had stores.

Wet a high priority? Scratch the R-S2.

Falken FK-452, BFG KDW-2. Both awesome all around tires. The Falken is quieter, and the BFG is a little more responsive.

By the way, I don't know what's wrong with you guys.

ZE-512's (the 55-series and lower version) have one of the best compounds ever made. In outright traction, they are outstanding (seriously up there with RT-615s, etc). Their only downsides are a comfort-biased sidewall, quick wear (a given, acknowledging their traction), and perhaps too-narrow rain channels.

All in all, they are incredible tires. They're just not very sporty at all, because of their sidewalls. And FWIW, I did use a set of 225/50/15 ZE-512s during an auto-x championship last summer and placed 1st in class, and 3rd overall (out of 65+ cars).

I really don't know where you are getting these negative opinions from.

The Ziex aren't track tires but have work just fine for me in most conditions. I would say the ES100's are a worse tire, had less grip in the rain and squealed way more in the dry.

George, you never did say what your intended uses were for them. Daily driving or also some autox and track time (the Ziex actually did fine on a simple track only 2 weeks after installation)?

BFG KDW-2s all the way! and Costco has a coupon for $60 off a set of four tires, including the KDW2 right now.

the ziex is a nice tire too but the BFGs will last quite a bit longer

                  ES100s are garbage

                    Well crap!

I should have been more clear...I know better.

Tires are for a DD. And something this isn't going to make me r3v every time I see a drop of rain is what I need.

                    Also budget is around $100/tire.

Does that make it more clear?

I think we answered you. the KDW2 should be about $100 a tire (mounted and balanced) if you use the $60 coupon at costco.

Falken FK452 albeit not your size 235-40-18 and 265-35-18 on an E34 M5.
Drove in last night from Tampa to Miami in a pouring rain, with cross winds, and standing water - no problem whatsoever.

Falken ZE512 225-45-16 on a E30 vert, my DD when tired of the company sedan. Driven in the rain regularly - if I do not go to the FK452 when is time to swap them, I will buy the same. Have had them for almost two years, about 10k miles. ( Spirited SoFla driving at times) Good wear.
Took to a Chin weekend just to set suspension - no problem

                          tires are worth every penny.

225/50 Goodyear F1 GSD3's, ive got a set on 16X7 et24 in 215/50 but i know there is enough room for 225/50s. These tires are simply awesome in any condition, especially the wet.
