My 2 cents is that they are very, very plain looking.
They are plain, but I like the look. Clearly an aftermarket look, but flies under the radar of police. The cops have been really cracking down on drivers of modified cars in my city over tha last year and wheels set them off fast. It's changed my idea of what I want for wheels and the Type E fits the look.

That's my car Brew posted earlier. I've been pretty happy with the looks. Those pics don't really do the wheels justice. They look incredible while rolling.
I wanted the same thing you're looking for: 5 spoke, fairly inexpensive (I think I paid ~$450 for the wheels new), with a clean and understated look - not too flashy at all. Damn easy to clean too.
I can understand peoples' criticizm over the "soft" look. I think these wheels look best on E30s without any body kits. Extremely simple wheels like these don't go well heavily modded cars. At 17.? lbs per 16" wheel, they're a little on the heavy side, too.
Those look good man, your car can pull it off... If Im not mistaken, they make a 16x9 too, or maybe thats just the type T. Thats the only way I would do it on my car
yes they make a 16x9 also. I used to have them on my old conv. they are REALLY heavy, and they do look nice, but I got bored of them really fast and sold them. not a bad rim though, I needed a 10mm spacer in the front only, and the rears you couldnt put spacers on cause there was no room.
With my 16x7.5 35et Type-E's, 225/45 tires (AVS ES100s for the record, since not all tires will fit the same) and 8mm spacers I have very little clearance between the tires and shocks - 2-3mm at most.
I'd have to agree that 10mm spacers would be ideal. 15mm might place the tires too close to the inner fender in back, especially on '89+ cars. Also, ride height and camber also play a role at that point.
