Rims How wide can we go?

Hi there fellow members, I am in need of a little help here, a member of the name 318kid on the m42club fourm told me to post this query here so here i am.

Rite let me start of by saying I love wide wheels alloys and rims. I would like to know how wide can us E30 owners go??

    1. How wide can we go with rims at the rear without any extra modifications? I.e. spacers etc

    2. How wide can we go with extra modifications i.e. spacers etc?

I am talking about the front and the rear how wide can we go all-round with and without extra modifications.

so far i have come across

    Front wheels 17" - 8"wide

    & the rear

    Rear Wheels 17" - 12"wide

would this rim fitment work with our cars ? and is there any minor/major modifications that would need to be done to achive this?

    Cheers guys

    All help is much appreciated

    Many Thanks
    Jazz

12" are not going to fit unless

        a) you have the widest widebody
        or
        b) you have no fenders

E30's don't need anything over an 8" wheel.

17x8 will fit, with the right offsets.

          ^Yup, 17 x 8 ET 25, roll the fenders and run 235/40/17.

That's alot of tire for a relatively lightweight, small car like these. Especially if you run something like the Dunlop Direzza Star Spec, Yok Advan Neova, Bridgestone RE-01R

what, did e30zone kick you out for asking questions like this?

              a) purchase fender flares
              or
              b) cut your wheel arches higher

              we arent your buddies, pal

If you can even find a decent set of 17x8 rims in 4x100 with a good offset and not spend $$$$$$$$, then go for it.

Something in the +25 offset range should be fine.

Just take Hodge's advice. wider shouldnt be an option.

If you still disagree, then e30tech.com is the place for you.
ill decisions like that what you suggest arent greatly accepted around here.

                      Just as I typed earlier.

And no, decent wheels of this nature aren't cheap.

About the cheapest you can do is Team Dynamics at around $220 shipped a wheel, but that was back in March I checked so it may be higher now because of freight and material costs.

And there was going to be a 6-8 week backlog to have them made.

It depends on what your definition of fit is.

The only 17x8 wheels I can find that look pretty good are XXR 006's.

I know they are Sportmax's but they look pretty damn good for what they are.

Other than that, unless you can get some Rial Nogaros or ASA AR1/AR2, then you are pretty much out of luck on good looking 17x8 wheels that aren't custom.

NINJA EDIT: Oh I guess there are MRR GT1's. I thought about those, but they only come in 17x7.

Hold on...A 8" wide wheel almost rubs the strut housing on my et20 wheels. I think et15-20 would be ideal.

on the rear I have 16x10 with a 6 3/4 inch back spacing.
have about 1 inch clearence between the shock and wheel and about 1/4 inch between the wheel and fender.
on the front I have 16x8 with a 4 3/4 inch back spacing.
Its pretty tight. I wouldnt even want to think about running a 17 inch wheel.
