No clue what to tell you really, but I have just started sanding the center nuts for my RS001's and to get rid of some deep scratches and textured finish I had to start with 150 and work my way up. I have only done one so far up to a 600 grit paper. I plan on going all the way to 2000 and everything after 600 will be wet sanded (and of course compound/polishes to finish them up)...
I do know my finger tips are F'ing hating me right now for wanting highly polished RS001 center nuts!

I just taped off the centers with duck tape and put air craft stripper on the lips and pressure washed them.
Polished up instantly.
I wish I had better pics before I sold them. If you look at the top of the pic you will see them.
I just touched up the spots that didnt come off with a little more stripper. That was it.
