    Mirror polishing deep dish lips?

    I've got Borbet A's, 16 x 9's all around..

    I want to mirror polish the lips;

There is a shop not too far that could do it, but I suspect they are pretty pricey. Probably around $100 a wheel just for the lips - they are pretty much the only place in Montreal that does this, too..

Does anyone know anything about DIYing this?

Anyone have any experience with this, or know of a good write-up?

Wet sand, then start using a buffing wheel with a couple progressively finer compounds.

Now do you create a clean line between painted area and the polished area? I've never seen it done.

              What wheels do you have,

I'll call them and see how much 8 wheels would be...

Do you want to polish just the lips? Or the whole wheel?

Polishing is super easy once you get it down.
Just takes some time an work.
Depending on the condition on the wheels start around 320grit and work up to 2000grit.
Then get out some compound an polish away.
Heres my Type As with that process

My type As have polished wheels but they are a bit dull and I wanted to bring them back to a nice mirror shine, I tried one of them with 2000 grit and then some mothers aluminum polish, it looks good, but far from a mirror finish.
ANybody can provide a list of polishing compounds, if several, and maybe a slightly detailed process...
                        Thanks

white rouge should work fine. just make sure to have a high RPM drill and some good polishing wheels. with the drill method its not hard to get a really mirror finish. when i redid my valve cover with this method, i actually got the raised parts TOO shiny for my tastes and re-scuffed them up.

I know this is older than dirt, but interested in what your polished valve cover looks like. I'm trying to decide between paint and polishing. What about polishing the cover and painting the intake silver? Not enough contrast?
