It doesn't take somebody with experience on a track to notice the difference in 5-10lbs of weight from a heavier set of rims. -
thats very true. Ive only been driving for 2 years and i noticed a huge diff when i took of my borbet Cs and put my bottles back on. i think the Cs are like 23ish and the bottles are 16(correct me if im wrong)Originally posted by DigitalwaveIt doesn't take somebody with experience on a track to notice the difference in 5-10lbs of weight from a heavier set of rims.Originally posted by rwh11385hahah. I think they look sexy on Calypso's car, but are kinda bling-bling because they are unruly expensive. sure they are good looking and very cool in person, but $$$$.l
I mean, sure they are fucking light, but is anyone short of say, Ted, Charlie, Mario (just to name 3) experienced enough on the track to make a difference? Probably not, so they are likely bling. (and do some of us really need 225s, likely not)
I'd just opt for some Kosei's......because 15's are cheaper. (Or 16in ones like Team Solo Alex, with spacers)90 325is
IE stage 3s and refeshed m20....

in the grand scheme of wheels, SSR's arent that expensive. *Most* people owning e30's are on strict budgets, so the cars are often seen with "budget" wheels.Originally posted by rwh11385But TJ, you have you ask yourself if it is worth the $$$$? What else could be done with that, or who has that much $ to spend on wheels?
Borbets/ASA/Kopi's/etc are all cast wheels that weigh a ton and are fairly cheap.
SSR's are worth every reasonable penny, and it doesnt take a nuclear scientist to notice the difference in unsprung weight.
The only reason I dont have SSR's is that I cant justify spending 2x what the original purchase price of my car was on wheels for it. E30's are cheap, if I had an e46 or similarly $$ car, I'd look at HRE's SSR etc.
My $.02Below the radar...Comment

I agree Chris. What, $300? a wheel isn't insane for other people. One has to keep it into perspective like that mentioned.Originally posted by UNHCLLin the grand scheme of wheels, SSR's arent that expensive. *Most* people owning e30's are on strict budgets, so the cars are often seen with "budget" wheels.Originally posted by rwh11385But TJ, you have you ask yourself if it is worth the $$$$? Didn't TMS run SSR's in years previous and Will loved them: strong, light, etc.
Let me edit my post:
But TJ, you have you ask yourself if it is worth the $$$$ for a car most people cannot afford to maintain properly?? What else could be done with that, or who here has that much $ to spend on wheels?Comment

There is nothing wrong with spacers.Originally posted by MystikalSSR Comps look great to me. I'd have a set if they didn't need spacers (which are the devil).

lets not start that :?Originally posted by rwh11385We could all be like you-know-who and pay to get our euro plate filler installed, and plan on putting HRE's on our re-sprayed blue E30 with brand new stock replacement bumpers, whatever.90 325is

Or you could pay someone to spin the adjusters on your coilovers for you ;)Originally posted by 318driverlets not start that :?Originally posted by rwh11385We could all be like you-know-who and pay to get our euro plate filler installed, and plan on putting HRE's on our re-sprayed blue E30 with brand new stock replacement bumpers, whatever.Comment

Mistaken. Fool. Get it right.
I couldn't get the spring out (probably needed to undo some things) so I paid to have the springs changed, and car aligned. Not perch adjusted. Sorry I didn't know it would be such and "easy" task. ;) You live, you learn.
Plus, I was in a rush to get my car up and ready to go drifiting :PComment

Wait? They are only like $320 a wheel?!?!?!? I thought they were supposed to be pricey.
Definately getting a set so I can cover them with Hawk brake dust and save the Alpinas next season. Plus the ligher would be nice. I wouldnt mind the FWD offset because that would make certain theyd fit whatever brakes I put under the Alpinas.
Hell, I could tell driving around on the bottlecaps how heavy my Alpinas were.Im now E30less.

I agree with Trent...spacers are far from the devil. I used to run SSR's at the track with spacers, and never had a problem. I ran my 17" M3 rims this year at LRP with 20mm spacers, and again, no problem. Are they kind of a bitch if you dont have wheel studs? Yes, but thats about the only problem there is with them. It also helps to BE SURE that they fit the hub perfectly AND the centerbore on your rim (I learned the hard way on that one).
And yes, SSR's can be expensive, but as expensive as BBS RGR'S? Fikse's? In the grand scheme of things, they are reasonably priced for a very good, light, forged rim. Its really a hard combination to beat. Some people think they dont look great, fine, but others are of the frame of mind that function comes before form, and really, its hard to do better in that capacity.
FWIW, I bought mine for $1250 with tires from a kid that bought them, then didnt want them on a grey car. There are deals, just have to look, and be patient for long enough.
