I'm getting a new set of tires and I think I might have decided on the Toyo Performance set. What do you guys think about this decision? I can always change it as I haven't purchased them yet! :?:

^Yeah, but I wouldn't want to run a DOT R compound as a street tire.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

Because R comps are never going to reach their optimum temperature range during street driving.
Like the sportbike guys who would buy race takeoff's and wonder why they couldn't keep up with us while running sport touring tires.
You're better off with a STREET tire on the STREET.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

Obviously you have not been to our part of the world where all the roads turn into knots! Not very many "cagers" can stay with our sport bikes on the mountain. Both my gap car & bike are on race tires (for Deals Gap - US129) and we have no problems getting them up to temps. Now if your in the suburbs, then yeah I can see these tires are a waste.Because R comps are never going to reach their optimum temperature range during street driving.

No not to your part of the world.
But northern Arkansas has more than its fair share of twisty roads. And the roads out here are much "faster" than the Deals gap, not as tight. More 60-110 sweepers, and tightish sweepers vs 40 mph hairpins and switchbacks.
Although once I get another bike I will not be doing anymore of the knee-down at 80+ type shit on the street again.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

Ok well I guess you guys kind of answered my question. I dont know the specific type but I do know it fits the e30. So is getting a performance tire really have its advantages over a regular tire?'91 Brilliantrot 318iS - Sold

You need to think about the kind of driving you will be doing 90% of the time. Are you willing to accept accelerated tire wear for more grip? Will your style of driving warrant the extra expense of race spec tires? In my case, I have a dedicated car for mountain passes such as deals gap and never use it for commuting. If this were my only means of transportation I would not use these tires, I would find a tire with a little more compromise.East Tennessee Euro Werks

Super sticky STREET tires would be, Yok Advan Neova, Dunlop Direzza Star Spec, Hankook RS-2, Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R, Kumho XS, Kumho MX, BFG KDW II.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

Add Falken Azenis Rt615, maybe even remove Kumho MX from the list... RT615 is stickier than MX.
Some of these tires mentioned aren't DOT R tires (very low tread wear rating, no resistance to water)... I wouldn't run DOT R tires on the street, they are expensive, will wear out VERY FAST and just aren't ideal for street use. A set of sticky Summer tires should do.Mtech1 v8 build thread - https://www.r3vlimited.com/board/sho...d.php?t=413205

Thanks, I knew I was forgetting one. Like Jean said, these are the streetable sticky tires.
Basically all the tires used in Street Tire class auto-x. With the new Dunlop apparently being the tire to beat and is much cheaper than the Yok or Bridgestone.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

R888s have a treadwear of 100 and cost ~170 each plus mounting. I don't think I'd want to run them on the street every day, even if I could. just get some falken azenis if you want an agressive street tire that doesn't kill your wallet.Comment
