    235/40/17, a dying tire size?

I've noticed since the summer there are less and less tires in this size. However, 245/40 seems to be growing.

Makes me wonder if I should go ahead and get my fitment setup to run 245/40s. Or am I being paranoid?

235.40.17 is still available from Toyo R888 as it was from the RA1 line-up. Sure it is a track tire, but such a wide tire wouldn't be require for street use.
For street, then a 225 is more than adequate.

245.40.17 is more an e36-e46 size. Way too tall, and too wide for an e30, unless it is an e30 M3 with even wider flares.
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

Street tires only Lee, this for Street Tire Auto-X, basically I'll be running Street Mod Street Tire class because of the diff, otherwise I'd be running DSP ST.

The affect on gearing of the taller 245/40 would actually be beneficial for me since I have a 4.10 rear end now as opposed to the 3.73. And our region builds long, quick courses.

245/35-17 is another choice albeit not that many to choose from (all are just average tires, nothing to blow your skirt up sorta speak). Would require at least a 17x8.5"+ wheel however... More like a 17x9" would be the correct choice of wheel size for that tire size...

yeah a t1r or similar in that size wouldn't touch the grip level of an extreme performance summer in 235/40

How about the Dunlop Z1 star specs? Seems like a fantastic tire, it's available in 235/40/17, and it's pretty cheap.

Yep, z1 star spec is an option, along with the bridgestone re-01.

I'm aware that there are still plenty of tires, performance tires, in that size. Just curious if its starting to go by the way side.

But yes, the Z1 and BFG KDW 2 are my two main choices. The Z1 will have more outright dry grip, but I'm assuming won't wear as long as the BFG and I still drive the E30 on most days.

This is the decision i'm dealing with right now. 215/40/17 fronts, 235/40/17 rear. Do I go z1 star specs or bfg kdw2's. bahh. z1's are slightly cheaper.

I've had the KDW2s, and they're great tires. Very predicatable, and lasted me through over 25,000 miles of hard driving, monthly canyon runs, etc. I'd definitely recommend them. :D

Then again the Star Spec is the best tire out right now. :p

Damn canyon run driftors. I'm glad I got out of Cali after seeing the way you guys drive so recklessly.

Hoping star spec lasts anything close to that. I'd be pretty happy about that. And of course, hope my motor outlasts both our tires combined sheesh.

                              Stagger for the lose!

Do 235/40 all the way around.

If I can find a decent price on them (not the $250 a tire a local place quoted me) I'm now considering doing the 245/35/17 Toyo R1R.
