45k miles: I just picked up this e34- 1989 535i :: Restore/ paint project thread
;) its such a good car. If I can save myself some effort in the paint department maybe I can spend that time working the other issues out.
Never would have expected polish/wax to bring it back like this..

What's your plan for that rust you uncovered?
I have naval jelly and I went to the store and got a write brush. I'm going to soak it and then hit it with the brush and hopefully it's just surface rust so I can hit it with rustoleum and be done. Haven't thought much beyond that.
If the dash or console is faded or hardened wipe it down with olive oil. It'll come out looking new and soften.
Yeah you can do that with the single stage paints. The ones like mine, metallics, have a clear coat so we can't do that. I love the color of my cabrio but I wish I could buff it nice and shiny like that. It's lost it's luster over the years when I didn't take care of my paint.
Das ist nicht nur nicht richtig, es ist nicht einmal falsch!

Red can seem so far gone. A little elbow grease gets it going. Like the progress!
