If the wheels & tires fit without rubbing, and you like them, get them.
If the odometer is not working = common for the smallest gear to crack on a few teeth. Easy to replace:

Update: First day with the car. A few issues.

        1) cold starts/idle requires a good amount of cranking and keeping the car about 1k for a minute or so to avoid stalling. What could it be?

        2) the middle vents (ones that shoot directly at you) only blow cold air, feet and defrost are both nice and hot.

        3) Speedo/odo no worky. I know i can fix the odo with new gears, but what about the Odo?

        4) brake pedal/clutch pedal squeak, so does the steering wheel when i turn. Very annoying.

        Thanks in advance.

          2 - that's the way the E28 system works.
3 - could be a problem with the Service Interval board in the gauge cluster - batteries discharged/leaking, solder traces cracked. Any other gauges acting up? Cruise control work?

Update. I discovered that there were
Several undisclosed issues with the car that I have not time or tools to tackle and the seller missed his car so I returned it to him.

My dad is willing to lend me some money so I can get into a
Car that doesnt need anything aside
from basic maintenance and is in good running and driving order. My new budget is around $4-5k and I'm in the hunt. If anyone knows of a solid 5er in that price range or is willing to sell his own, please let me know.
