If its a Msport like you are leading on to ill keep that. Nikasil is not a problem any more since the EPA eliminated sulfur in 2001 or 2002. As long as there is good compression in the motor today you will not have a issue. I have three customer who have 300,000 miles on their Nikasil block. I love buying these cars becuase everyone else seems to be "so affraid of lost compression".
Heres your internet research, http://bmw4life.com/nikasil.htm
BMW is very upfront with the issues and is willing to release internal documents they have about the replacement procedure and idenfication.Comment

xxx-Lost-Soul-xxx, I have owned both of these cars that you and family own, by far for the value, money, ride and bmw history, the E28 M535i, is the one by far, to keep fix up and drive, My suggestion, is lose the side markers as they are ugly but, they were need for importation to the states but not need anymore. Buy my M5 motor, put it in the car, and you can trade me the 540i/6.lol so no real money out of pocket. As they dont sell for much near where I live with my wife, and I can sell it faster then my motor right now I can buy E34 540i/6from $2500 to $4500 more or less, that is near where I live, other areas it maybe diffrent? but where can you or anyone get a m535i for that price? NO where, they are hard to find, if you find them they are either scrap material or pristine, $8k plus garage queens, both cars are very nice, but when you weigh it all out you know in your heart what it is! Remember if you buy my M5 motor there will be NO need to remove your M5 grill emblem. bmwextremeguy SHAWNLast edited by bmwextremeguy; 10-19-2012, 04:19 AM.Comment

Ditch the E28. Color (unless YOU like it) means nothing. I've never seen your car, but I can tell you right now the interior is super uggs because it contains the word 'rot' in the description.
The 540 is faster, quieter and more refined. Plus, I would rather maintain a M60 over an M30. Cheaper parts...self adjusting valves, self bleeding cooling system...etc..
Also, if an M60 makes it 145k miles and shows no nikasil symptoms, you will likely never have nikasil issues. On top of that, M60's are almost as common as M30's these days...cheap to replace.

Hello Folks,
Question time. If you had the choice which car would it be a
E34 540I/6 or a E28 M535i? I thought this would be a good place to ask because its not biased here,it seems theres a mix of E28/e34 people.
Both of these cars are in my Garage,we not selling "yet" But my parents have shown interest in selling the E34,In favor of the E38 we have. :(
They have offered me first dibbs/will give me the car If i put the E28 up. I told them no because My Euro is the only Artic blau on Tarrus Rot Known at this time,in the world. The e34 is 1/137 in the US.
The E34 has 145K On the Nikisill Motor, while my e28 has unknown miles around 280k if one was to to guess.
The e34 has been tapped in the front and the front right fender/grilles were replaced. The E28 was hit in the quarter panel and has Light rust.
No Rust on the E34,it was used a summer car from some Rich guy from Utah,The E28 was Hardy & beck import in 85 and has been in San Fransisco till 2011.
Which would you guys keep?Comment

Alpine white for the win. Besides, I think the 540i has more hp and no rust and much lower mileage. As was stated, if the nikasil issue has not reared its ugly head, then it probably won't disintegrate. Trade both for a 95 540i sport. It has M5 bits and pieces and also somewhat rare.Comment
