Bags or bodywork for my e12

Hey all, I'm having a dilemma on what to concentrate on next for my "79 528i. Right now the mechanical aspect is taken care of. I'm torn between doing the bodywork needed to make the car mint again and putting euro bumpers on it or spending some serious time either retrofitting a coil over setup or retrofitting a bagged setup. Either way I would have to spend some serious cash for the suspension. I work at a body shop/repair shop so the bodywork wouldn't be all that costly. The thing is I don't mind the car the way it sits now. I mind the bumpiness from the cut springs and fucked shocks. Please give me some advice! Thanks. Here are some pix of the car with the current wheels.

It looks ridiculous right now. Bodywork. Pretty please tell me that you don't plan to rust the hood.

A rusted hood makes you look childish. Yes, in a certain crowd, you will get lots of compliments for it. That does not make it tasteful or less ridiculous. You can find a crowd that will approve of, well, almost anything.

The lack of bumpers is what currently makes that car look absurd.

but the diving boards it originally comes with and accordion plastic covers arent absurd? this is why i hate the "proper" people on all bmw forums. if it isnt like it came out of the showroom, its wrong. :hitler:

If your are really a bodywork guy, then shave the Damn bumpers completely and bag the bitch. Then give it a proper paint job with a euro-classic pinstrip, but not over board American pushover style.

That chick in that seat has a body language saying "either the tits or the tires" so i would not hesitate to make that sled sexy cause she is looking embarrassed - the car that is

If that's your opinion on the snob side of the original factory only group, go ahead and shave your roundel too while you are at it. Because brand name status has no bearing on where you are talking about heading

                Do it.

You can make ratty paint job and a dinged up body look pretty good with nice wheels and good fitment. Imo those wheels having nothing to do with e12s, or well anything else around that time era. Maybe some e38 style 5s to get you by which can be had for cheap so you can splurge on suspension bits. And then bodywork which you say you can do for less money. And then some better wheels which make them kittens purr.

Please don't bag it. What utilitarian purpose do bags serve?

Please ditch the wheels and get something smaller and better looking. Think weaves of some sort.

I would do proper coilover suspension first, then bodywork. Get the car to drive well, then worry about looks.

Also, ditch that wagon on the roof, please.

Hey, maybe you could stickerbomb the eurobumpers and one of those awesome wheels!

These ones you said you may install. I'm telling you if you want to do stupid ass scene shit, (EDIT) that would be a good idea.

Too bad you can't do it right, and do it like this...

Diving boards and accordions are better than no bumpers, yes. Taking them off because you think they are fugly looks even more stupid.

And I will agree that it continually staggers me how badly BMW executed the 10MPH bumpers. It's not like Mercedes couldn't make them work just fine.
