1990 525i kick down issue

The kickdown function started acting up in my auto 525i. When I depress the accelerator the car tries to kickdown into the lower gear but it it just acts erratically and won't accelerate.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Why it causes erratic behavior: If the switch is intermittently making contact, or sending a "dirty" signal, the Transmission Control Module (TCM) will get confused. It might try to downshift, then cancel, then try again, leading to that erratic feeling. that's not my neighbor
