Since I have recently bought my third car unfortunately this one has to go. I've enjoyed this project but I just don't have the time or space to do it justice anymore.
Backstory: I bought this car in January from Austin (also on this forum) as a non-driveable project. Two years ago, it rear ended somebody right above the bumper and was subsequently parked. The car sat until Austin bought it last year, and then I bought it from him after he got it 80% ready to drive. The car was never totalled and still has a clean title in my name. I have daily driven it since February, the only thing that went wrong was the aux fan, and I suspect this was still due to the previous accident.
What you get:
-1993 e34 M5
-178xxx miles
-S38B36
-Alpine White 2 (this was no longer officially offered in MY93 so the car has a "Sonderlack" tag)
-MY93 means that it comes with forged throwing star M-System wheels and M-Tech mirrors (euro look)
-Hell silbergrau interior (Light silvergray)
-Ski hatch
The good:
The car had a comprehensive $8000 service at an independent shop in June 2008 at 170,948 miles including:
Engine mounts
Front suspension except thrust arms
Brake rotors
The following work was done by Austin, Chris McAra and me, 1500 miles ago:
Refreshed cooling system: new radiator, water pump, thermostat, spal fan and hoses. New chain tensioner
Rebuilt the front end with:
-Junkyard grille surround and hood hardware
-Ebay Hood
-OEM grilles
-Euro smilies
Replaced front thrust arms
Replaced rear pitman arms
New 235/45 R17 Continental Extremecontact DW
Straight 17x8 forged M-System Throwing stars all around
Fresh Royal Purple Oil
New Spark Plugs
New Ignition cap, rotor
New Ignition wires
New aux fan
New PS/alt and AC belts
Fresh r134a
New Royal Purple ATF for the PS.
AZ Emissions passed in February 2012, so you're good for 20 more months in AZ
Car drives straight, very slight vibration under braking
Petrucci polished the paint and waxed it this February, taking care of the solarization and most of the scratches.
Interior is in a nice state, it gets a lot of compliments. Once you own the car you will notice that it is not mint (outlined below)
Engine does not consume significant oil or coolant. The car pulls very good above 4000 rpm (as all S38s should do).
I do not see any issues preventing this car to be daily driven in the current state with a little work on the exterior.
The Bad:
The hood needs to be painted, it is still black (coating that it came with). I have colormatched 2-stage paint (for a paint gun) and primer that will come with the car. This can also be used for the front bumper.
Front bumper has scratches and one, and the bottom vent is broken in places.
The interior has no rips or tears but there are some smaller defects:
The kick panel above the pedals broke, and the dash is slightly warped under the center vent pushing it up. The cluster lighting is inop, and the leather seatbelt receptable surrounds are old and worn. In the rear one seatbelt reel upper surround is cracked. Steering wheel is worn.
The car slowly heats up when idling above 100°F ambient with the A/C on full. A/C off it has no issue. I have not looked into this yet but the car has never overheated under my ownership. I have always switched the A/C off or received my food so that I could drive out of said drive in.
There is a clunk in the RH front suspension when making slow turns.
Shifter bushings feel slightly worn.
Radio needs some TLC to get back to Pumpin Beats Status.
The car exhibits a slight tendency to mark its territory with PS fluid.
Fog lights inop.
Remote works intermittently
What you get with the car: (these parts are not installed)
Complete S38/S14 valve adjustment kit including valve bucket depressor tool, Volvo 240 shims (alternative to the OEM shims, no functional difference), feeler gauge, pickup magnet. This is unused and $400 value.
New valve cover gasket.
Front LH and RH side US bumper trim
Front side markers
New seatbelt buttons (to hold up your seatbelt insert)
M5 rear badge (currently de-badged, your choice)
Why I am hesitant to fix it up quick for the sale
I am aware that with a $150 MAACO paint job and the bumper trim on the car it would look over 9000 times better. I haven't done this yet since I would like to let the buyer decide if he/she wants a quality paint job and if he/she wants to fix and refinish the bumper (running the risk of breaking tabs on the new trim if installed. So for now, no paint.
What I get: SOLD
Serious buyers are welcome to inspect test drive the car in the Phoenix area (east Mesa). No M5-joyrides.
Teaser picture from way back when we first drove it out to get fresh gas car has hood, front end now

Link to pictures and a short idling video (sound is shitty from the camera, it does not sound like a vacuum in real life):
The rust-looking brown stuff behind the shock tower is in fact AZ desert dust.
If anybody would like to see particular parts of the car or has further questions, let me know!
edit: contact me via PM or on my email, which is my username at the well known google mail service.
