    WTB: e34 m50 Touring

    Hey,

I just sold my e30 track car, and am looking for a nice DD car. I have my hart set on an e34 wagon.

    Must be:
    -m50
-White would be best but really any color other than black will do
    -$4,500 or less

I dont mind taking a road trip to pick the car up. Im located in CA.
Ill be MIA till next month when Ill really actively be looking.
If anyone knows of a nice wagon please let me know, Craigslist finds and so on.

    Cheers,

    Jeremy

Man these are hard to find! Iv been looking all day and have only found 1 5 speed wagon in all of California out of maybe 15 tourings. Almost considering getting an automatic and doing a 5 speed swap. Just dont have my own work space :(

You do know that none of the e34 wagons came as a 5 speed right? That is why the 5 speed is so rare.

Figured as much. Even the swaps are hard to find. I thought by this point more people would have swapped in 5 speeds.
I know of a nice white '94 Ill try and pick up and swap.

Only in the States, automatics are rare here. I see e34 kombis (wagons) with 5 speeds daily.

Looks nice. I have my eye on a white e34 touring as well. Opposite side of the country though.

Iv heard that they have bad head gasket problems. Especially cars that have had large cooling system rebuilds, actually have misdiagnosed head gasket leaks.
                      Truth in this?

Best of luck finding a touring. I was searching for an Alpine one as well. I settled for a Hellrot one though.

They're decent cars, but boring in comparison to an e30. You can feel the weight. However, they are super comfy.

Well i think it's a general flaw in most m50/m52 and s50/s52 engine bays. The radiator, hoses, water pump, and thermostat are weak and should be considered 80-100k wear items and a lot of e34's might not have had that treatment. The aluminum head is not hard to warp when the car is overheated. I can't imagine it would be considered an e34 specific problem though when these engines appeared in so many different cars.

It's funny you bring this up I'm actually going to look at a white e34 touring tomorrow with a blown head gasket.

I mentioned I was looking at an e34 wagon in my e30's build thread and another member brought up the cooling system problems, and seamed to think it was a ti specific problem for some resin. He thinks that many of them with cooling system rebuilds have misdiagnosed head gasket leaks.
I bought a CO2 test kit to test for CO2 in the coolant just to be safe. Plus I can look for white smoke.
The FS thread of the wagon I want mentions it has had the cooling system rebuilt. Maybe thats good, maybe thats bad.

                              Nice ride!
It figures they would be sloppy and fat compared to an e30. It will definitely be different since I have only owned e30s and 2002s. But right now I am really looking forward to a big fat comfortable ride. Ill get another small fun car down the road.
