    FS: 1987 535is

I have a 1987 BMW 535is for sale. I bought it back in 2012 planning on making it my project car but ended up acquiring a new project car this summer that I would rather put my time into. The car is located in Albany GA.

PRICE: $3000 O.B.O (really pay attention to the o.b.o. part, i'm very willing to work with you on that)

    About the car:

    PROS:
    - Its Diamantschwarz Metallic (faded and peeling).
    - It has a pearl beige interior with a new uncracked dash (I did this back in the fall, dash does have one small nick in the center above the vents).
    - A lot of the interior parts have been replaced from a parts car I bought, this includes all the seats, door panels, B-pillar trim, carpet, one sun visor, and glove box.
    - Heater box rebuilt.
    - Evaporator has new seals in the metal hose lines.
    - New in the front: H&R sport springs with new KYB shocks; upper and lower control arms; sway bar bushings; tie rods; center track rod; idler arm bushing; upper strut mounts; sway bar end links; and pass. side front wheel bearing.
    - New in the rear: Completely rebuilt rear subframe/suspension, all resprayed in black. This includes new subframe and trailing arm bushings; pitman arms; sway bar bushings and end links; wheel bearings on both sides; differential has all new seals, gaskets, and fluid; and new CV joint boots.
    - All four brake calipers have been rebuilt and all rubber brake lines are new. Brake master cylinder was rebuilt, all brake fluid changed.
    - All fluids have been drained and replaced when I bought the car in 2012, oil has been changed as necessary since.
    - New transmission mounts have been installed as well as a new rubber boot for the shifter where it goes through the body.
    - New coolant reservoir and level sensor.
    - New intake boot.
    - New fuel filter.
    - Millie Miglia 1000 16x7 wheels with brand new Hankook tires.
    - I have a rebuilt starter and alternator that comes with the car (installation pending on sale)
    - New-ish exhaust (new down pipe and cat. but muffler came off a parts car)
    - New trunk gasket.
    - New trunk hinge.
    - New tail light gaskets.
    - New windshield gasket and trim (windshield replaced from parts car)
    - Repainted door handles, side mirrors and grills.
    - New windshield wiper blades.
    - Fog lights are from parts car, one appears brand new.
    - Drivers seat bolster replaced. (frame welded, new foam and leather, piping slightly different)
    - New shift knob.
    - New accelerator pedal bushings.
    - New "brake bomb" nitrogen ball that acts as a pressure accumulator for the brake system.

    CONS:
    - Needs bodywork, specifically on drivers side rear quarter panel. Rear door needs adjusted and needs a new window track seal.
    - Windows all worked at one point, but sometimes the pass. side from window does not work and same with the drivers side rear window.
    - No A/C, all the parts are there, it just need some electrical troubleshooting and a recharge (I suspect it might just be the A/C switch not working)
    - No radio/head unit (all of the sound system is there, original head unit comes with the car. PO tried some wacky wiring that I isolated when swapping the dash)
    - Some small rust spots on the bottom of the drivers door (might be some on the other doors but i'm not sure, that is all the rust on the car though!)
    - Bad hood foam.
    - Electric mirrors do not work (except for one mirror does work in one or two directions)
    - No hood emblem.
    - Speedo doesn't work, I suspect its just the sensor in the differential.
    - Drivers side rear door black upper trim broke off (I believe I have an extra one with all the extra parts but it only has one or two clip attaching points)
    - Headliner has some rips in it on the C-Pillars and a small rip in the sunroof portion.
    - Drivers seat knee bolster not extending on one side and knee bolster switch trim piece is gone.
    - Leather shift boot torn.
    - Rear bumper pulled off because it was completely split in 2 places.
    - Front bumper has some cracks and black rubber trim has some missing chunks.
    - Steering wheel has no more leather on it, could use new leather or just be replaced.
    - Needs new hood shocks.
    - Starter doesn't engage sometimes hence why it comes with a rebuilt starter.
    - After ~3 days of sitting the battery goes dead but it stays charged fine for ~5 days if driven regularly (this is why it comes with a rebuilt alternator)
    - Tools are not in tool kit, but are in a box with all the extra parts.

I hope I have described it accurately enough. The car is very mechanically sound. The brakes work well except I do not trust the ABS to work properly (I have a replacement ABS pump). Power steering works great. Clutch and shifting is all smooth and works well (shifter lever is a small bit sloppy). It is great fun to drive and will make either a great DD or project car for whomever gets it!

    The deal:
The car, and documents, are located in Albany GA. I am the legal owner of the car and I am currently attending school in Dahlonega GA. My father is the current caretaker of the car and will help anyone who wants to look at the car and also handle the transfer of the car to its new owner. In the process of working on this car I acquired a 1988 BMW 535is in Zinnoberot as a parts car. All remaining parts from this car will be included in the sale of the 87' 535is. As there were many parts both good and bad, I am not sure as to all the specific parts that are left over. I do know there is a hood, and at least 3 doors (Including the drivers side rear door!) left with all their related parts and will come with all the parts. The differential off the parts car was sold. The transmission, all wiring harnesses, some seats and seat parts, an M30b34 engine (optional with sale), lots of hardware, tail lights, and hundreds of other small parts from all over the car are there. The original 390mm TRX wheels and tires com with the car as well. The tires are slightly dry-rotted but still hold air very well! A new set goes for around $1500 so these are great if you want an original appearance!
Like I said earlier, $3000 o.b.o., and I am willing and looking forward to working with you!

Sorry for the huge pics!!! I'm not sure how they are so big, I linked them from imgur and I don't know why they blew up? So for now just zoom out on your browser screen

Older pic showing the car with TRX wheels and a rear bumper but its the only pic I have of the drivers sider rear right now.

They are still ginormous (painfully so). I owned an 87 535is in Diamondschwarz as well.
