WTB ASAP: s3.25 LSD Diff (mines dying an oily noisy death)

I have been searching for a s3.25 LSD for over 6 months to replace my failing s2.93 diff. It is now just about dead; it has a serious whine that won't go away and there is a huge amount of play internally, and the input shaft and output shafts are leaking. I'm guessing the bearings are shot. It developed a steady whine that has gotten worse over the last year and it is now audible 50ft away and is at the point where I don't want to drive it for fear of drive train damage. The clunking is a more recent noise and its pretty scary.

I really need a new diff as soon as possible! If anyone one has a s3.25 in good shape, preferably with low miles PLEASE PM me. I need a new diff ASAP. Cash in hand! (Paypal)

These diffs came on the e28 chassis with a manual transmission: 535i/s and 533i/s and the 1988 528e.

It's got to be a medium case to fit properly. Thanks!

The 3.25 lsd came on some but not all 535i and 635i, did not matter if manual or auto, was an option buyer could get. If you are in dire need I do have a 3.25 open for 50 Plus shipping. You can also get the 3.46 lsd from the 325i or the 528e 1988 auto. Tends to be nice.

you know, if the diff is still locking up well, you could always take the LSD internals from the 2.93 and mate them to the gear set, bearings and case of an open 3.25.

its a little bit of work, but would cost you a lot less, $50-100 versus $350-400.
hell, then you could buy new bearings and seals and have a fairly fresh diff in the end.

or you can have a diff guy mate the two together.

There's only two places I know of that even work on BMWs in Maine, and neither are cheap. I have been in contact with one of them for a few weeks now, but it has not led to anything. Parts and shops for BMWs here are few and far between. I wish I knew a diff guy to do something like this.

I am traveling for the next few weeks and have garaged the car for a bit. I am planning on going to the swap meet in CT May 1st to check if there is a diff I can track down there or perhaps I'll get lucky in a parts yard in NJ.

I hope that I can find one and bring it back with me since I'll need my car!

I didn't realize a transmission shop would be able to do that kind of work. I guess that makes sense. I imagine that the cost of having the diff rebuilt or fankensteined together at a shop is more than getting a new diff outright. I'd be cautious of any shop in Maine working on a diff; I have had some bad experiences with locals shops. The one shop that is reputable will undoubtedly be cost prohibitive.

I appreciate the offer, and if I do not find a diff down here at a parts yard or at he Connecticut swap meet, I will take you up on your offer!

can't hurt to ask. yes i agree finding a whole unit is easier, probably cheaper, but you may not even find a 3.25 in the near future, as they are pretty sought after.

                        I;d be hapy with a s3.23 from a Z3m Roadster/Coupe. Fits the same.

Still looking. Got fucked by the seller and he sold it to someone else. I need a diff with low miles, a good lsd clutch pack, and quiet bearings. Someone help me find one please!
