    Shocking E34 issue

Looks like the rear shock has pushed through its mounts and the plastic covers. It is sticking up so far that I cannot put the seat up and lock it in place. Can someone tell me what the heck happened? Thanks

    Shock in question

The rubber in the rear shock mount failed.

Accident, would the best bet be to replace both rear shocks?

The shocks are fine, in theory. You need to replace the mounts.

I've seen that happen before. I saw it happen on the front strut, and it put a huge dent in the hood!

Wow, well thankfully it happened in the rear of the wagon!

Be glad it's a wagon. In sedans the shock mount resides just beneath the speaker with a few more inches to the back glass.

did you install the large impact washer that sits between the shock and the chassis?
