E34 V8 AT Fluid

My brother and I just spontaneously bought a 1995 540i from a friend who needed cash. Got it cheap, feeling good; especially with a binder full of work receipts. It does have some peculiar transmission noise however. It could just be me, having not driven an automatic car in quite a while, or possibly even the aftermarket muffler it has; but I would like to change the transmission fluid as a first step precaution.

What fluid do you guys use?

If it's a an E34 you should have the 5HP30 transmission. If E39 = 5HP24.
Much discussion on this topic, and many options - try a "search" to get your head spinning! I went with the BG flush on our E46 with the GM auto transmission.
