E24 ignition switch same as e28?

Just picked up an 85 635csi 5 speed, love the car but it only starts intermittantly and it seems like the ignition switch is it the same part as the 535i? im new to this chassis

Also as a side note anyone know about short shifter options for this car?

Bigcoupe.com is an E24 specific forum, and on MyE28.com there's a bunch of folks who own both.

I have no knowledge of shifter options, sorry on that subject.

The e24 is the same as the e28. I have 2 good ignition switches if you are interested. With the short shift the z3 shifter will work.

you need the white switch,not red as the post 86 had.
its either 61321370341 or 61321376322 depends on the month of production.
