Heater Core replacement - reassembly question

    Hey guys,

Over the weekend I tackled the heater core... what a task! Removing the dashboard, the evap box and the heater core themselves was straight forward. However, I've hit a roadblock while reassembling everything.

The evap box seems like it accepts a large plastic duct that channels air to the rest of the ductwork. When I reinstalled it there were big gaps and it just didn't seem to fit right. Is it supposed to have a loose fit?

    Before I removed everything:

    Reassembly:

I can't tell if something is supposed to go between or it is in fact that loose.

What am I doing wrong here? Its impossible to find a guide on the web for this...

Also in the future no reason to remove the dash, unless you are replacing it with an uncracked one.
