Odd revving at 2000rpm ??

Hello everyone

I have a 1991 525I with 203K on it now. Still runs fantastic and we love this car.

While cruising along and usually when there is a constant load on it (like a hill or an incline) at a steady 2000rpm or so it does an odd revving and the econometer fluctuates. Up and down, up and down... its hard to explain of course. It doesn't just stay at whatever rpm the pedal is at...

Any insight will help... I am guessing dirty injectors ??

its an automatic.... whenever this is a constant load (incline, hill, rise in the road etc.) Even pressure on the gas pedal... and you can hear the engine rev up and down and see it do so from the econometer moving.... but no additional acceleration.. never seen this happen.
