SI batteries

Hi,
now that I have removed the cluster I can see why my rpm gauge, temperature and fuel savings didn’t work.
batteries are toast.

these are 1.2v 500mah

first question is where do I buy these batteries from?
second, how do I know it’s the batteries for sure and nothing else?

On the 86 and later cars, those gauges have their signal routed thru the SI board. New SI batteries may not fix the issue. Once the original batteries die, they can cause some of the transistors, voltage regulators, and capacitors on the board to fail; basically you need to get an entirely new SI board.

if you have a 325e and just want the gauges working and don’t care about the SI lights, you can swap an 84/85 cluster (gauge signals on this cluster aren’t routed thru the board except the temp gauge) and jump pins 3 and 6 to get the temp gauge working.

Hello various cluster builders sell "used but known working" or "repaired" boards but those will probably fail on your upon arrival or shortly after that. From what I understand, we are one of the only companies that offers a truly refurbished SI board, which has all of its batteries, capacitors, transistors and voltage regualtors replaced and comes with a 3 year replacement warranty.
