    LOL @ his response...

Kudos to you for pulling a carfags on it. With the report you got back on it I would not have gone over $1000 for said pile oh shit... Good he acted like an ass and turned your offer down (he knew good and well he was selling a fubared car), as you would have way over paid for it with the lack of proof of anything on his part and the derogatory report you got from carfags.

Hang in there and the right one will come along...

haha, sorry you had to go through that, that guy sounds psychotic. i don't see why you should take him at his word on the engine rebuild when he didn't disclose the black marks on the vehicle's history. even if the car is 100% fine, the accidents and rollback will affect the value when you turn around and try to sell it. I just hope some other sucker doesn't give him any more than 2500. Good luck continuing the search.

Shopping for a car can be frustrating. That car did have some money in it though. From what I could tell it had racing seats, modified cluster, nice wheel, expensive old school rims. A good paint job could run 4 gs and a motor rebuild is 2gs. The seller should have been more willing to disclose everything that was done. If it was painted at maaco then you should know. If he did the rebuild list the parts that he spent money on. The car looked ok to me, but I did not drive it. I doubt I would have paid 6gs for it though. A lot of guys will invest a bunch of money in stuff and expect to make a profit off of the grand total. It doesn't work out that way unless the car is flawless. I thought 4 gs was a good offer myself. Don't be too down hearted...you'll find one. If you have that much to spend I have a car for sale in Utah that is unmolested. I might be willing to negotiate a little to allow you to fly out here to come get it. Driving it home is always a great way to get to know the car!!

$4,000 was a ridiculous offer for that crap car: that's a $1500 E30 at best. The seller doubtless lied about the engine re-build, and there wasn't $4K of worth in the car even if he had receipts for all the claimed work. Be happy this one didn't work out. Place an "E30 Wanted" ad here and you'll get offers from people that are honorable. Regional Craigslist.org sites are full of fairly-priced E30s, and a check-out by a BIMRS.org shop is always a good idea if you don't know all the nuances of this car. Good luck.

                this was a craigslist car.

The car was actually in pretty solid shape. Ran like a top, very fast, very tight. clean interior, everything worked, great stereo, good paint. That's what swayed my offer up to $4k on the spot. I was walking in planning to offer $2k. In retrospect, would've been interesting to his reaction if I had done that. I figured he'd counter my $4k and we'd go from there, but instead he lost it and tore off through the parking lot. You'd expect a guy with "OBO" on his list price would be ready to haggle.

Ultimately my eventual resale would have been hurt by the same dings on the carfax/autocheck, but as was mentioned, there WAS some money put into this car. Engine loped pretty good at idle, really threw you into the seat at 5k+ RPM. Seats were APC and didn't tilt forward to allow access to the back seats, they were also installed with some very hack aluminum spacers. Wheel was nice, cluster was done well also. Also had a shaved front roundel which I didn't particularly like. Wheels were curbed to shit, front rotors were totally shot. A/C didn't work, dash was mildly cracked.

He bought the car from a friend and has had it for 2 months, so I'm thinking maybe me disclosing the odometer issue and two accidents may have been an eye-opener for him that he might have spent too much on it when HE bought it. He's also a VW guy (where his "34" years are) so with his 2 whole months in the E30 world he just may not understand the market. In the end of the day, I'm glad I didn't make a deal with him. Character like that isn't something I want to associate with.

Sigh. Anywho, thanks for the advice/input/encouragement fellas.

                Back on the hunt.

email him back and drop the offer 500 because that burnout cannot be good for a car in that condition

I wonder if he bitches at his customers like that

It definitely worth 1.5k - 1.8k price range. I was trying to sell mine for $5.5K, but I already took out of the market 'cause I don't want to sell it cheap...

                      Is this the ad?

"I am selling way below what is in car because of the minor issues ..." haaaaaa

This guy is going to get a rash of crap now with his email posted for all to see. I guess the saying is true that what goes around comes around. If he is going to go around being a prick to a potential buyer imagine what he behaves like toward people he doesn't want to impress!!
