I have a convertible, I purchased it within the last few years and yes.... gasp.... I paid more than $500. People who love cars can also love convertibles. The E30 convertible is great. If you and your Uncle can come up with a price you are both happy with buy it. Anyway, It's really hard to tell the condition from those photos. The BAT auctions this year for E30 convertibles are usually landing between $6k - $12k with some outliers in there as well going much higher (some going lower).

Were do Audi TTs fall on the spectrum?

Honestly, a 6cyl z3 or z4 would probably be a perfect candidate, but I want to try something other than a BMW for a while.

        THEY/THEM

Boxsters are great when it comes to performance to price ratio.

        Easy to work on too.

It seems like a Boxter would be really great, but also has some complexity and cost. A miata wouldn't have as much performance, but would be dead simple and cheap. Meh. Maybe I should start by building my stoker engine and 5-speed swapping the sedan...
