Engine bay dimensions

I am currently on the look for an e30 to start my project car life. In doing so for this process I would like to do an engine swap and I’m looking for the dimensions of the engine bay to know what engines I can officially fit in there or for other engines I would need to mod the car for proper fitting. I’m looking for the subframe to the hood, or just the overall length, width and height.

near every swap that fits is already documented. quickest way there is see what worked for others. otherwise there is a thread with a 3d scan of the car here somewhere including the bay. do a search for the thread and have a look.

82eye thanks for the advice, and the link. I didn’t find much info for dimensions from anything but I did research on engines and most of the bmw m series fit if I’m correct and same for the s series. Still haven’t found any dimensions however even after searching for a while. :(

You'll fit pretty much everything in there , the issue is that shitheap booster location that ruins most conversions.
