    Internal fuel pump not receiving power

    Hey everyone. Trying to diagnose internal fuel pump issue.
    I am trying to see if it is getting any power using a multimeter. Am i doing it right?

    Multimeter confirms 12v at the battery, testing the pump plug both with and without cranking and reads 0v all the time.
    Tried a bulb as well, nothing.
    Could it be another issue such as cps, ecu or something else? I thought the fuel pump(s) would be hot at all times with ignition on.

    Any help greatly appreciated

    Very very bad idea to be probing with the fuel pump out, fuel vapour can ignite if you create a spark.

    checked to see if the fuel pump relay has power output to the pump?
    Boris - 89 E30 325i
    84- E30 323i

      Pump will prime when key is first turned on for about 5 seconds, but will then shut off again until the engine is running.

      You can jump the fuel pump relay for testing if you want to keep those wires on.

        So would I jump the relay pins, and simultaneously test with the multimeter to read power?

          Do a search on which pins to jump.

          I would suggest building a jumper with a fuse inline just in case. It's what I use for some extra safety even though I'm careful about making electrical connections.

          Yes, this will provide 12v to the circuit at all times, then you can verify with your meter that it's getting to the fuel pump connector.
