    I just got owned.

So i just recently bought a 1988 325ix. Bought it off a buddy of mines uncle. From what i was told the car was in amazing shape and completely rebuilt motor, blah blah. Come to find out a good deal of what i was told was bullshit. Anyway i was driving down the road and i started to hear this sort of whining noise, so i was planning to check it out when i got home. I get stopped by a light and when i try to go my car doesn't move and its making this terrible grinding noise. I'm thinking its the rear diff. Anyone have any other ideas as to what it could be. Any help would be great, because im hoping to get it figured out and go buy any parts i need today so i can fix it by monday.

    thanks,

    Brandon

Yea hes a pretty good friend who also has an 88 ix... his uncle told him all this stuff bragging up the car... and why wouldnt he believe his uncle? but hes pretty dissapointed with the way the car was put together and the condition it was sold to me in as well... i was pretty pissed at first but theres really nothing i can do about it now besides suck it up and try to get the thing running good again. would the t-case make a grinding noise and not let me move? i assumed it was the rear diff because i was told that it would probably need to be replaced soon.

if it was bad once you saw it, then why did you still buy it?

you might want to post this in the 325iX subforum.
you'll probably get some more detailed answers there.

It didnt seem bad when i saw it. i live in MI and drove all the way down to PA to buy it... i drove it and it seemed nice, and all the background info that i was given on the car made me like it even more. i was told that it had a freshly rebuilt motor with only 150,000ish on it, but then later i found out that it was a slight rebuild with like 250,000 on it. and then more and more shit started to go wrong, but it was too late and i cant just return the car. so now i have to deal with my descision.

That's why you get a PPI done before you buy a car.
Can't you return it or is the uncle a total douchebag? What about your state's lemon laws?

PPI? never heard of that... the uncle doesnt seem like the kind of guy that would be willing to take the car back so im pretty much out of luck there... and ill have to check on the lemon laws.

Why did you post the exact same thread in 3 different subforums? FAIL.

PPI = Pre Purchase Inspection. There are shops all around, and some do it for free.
