Sad to see happen. I'm a big fan of the old 60's Pontiac's, but there wasn't much holding me to there newer cars.

Pontiac is gone, Saab is going, Saturn is being sold, and Hummer is being bought out.

              GM will be down to:
              1. Chevy (Mass production econoboxes, Fighting Honda/Toyota)
              2. GMC (Trucks, Fighting Toyota/Ford)
              3. Cadillac (Lux-performance, Fighting the Europeans)
              4. Buick (Luxury, kinda...and fighting the europeans in china)

I bet 30 monopoly bucks this is exactly what will happen to GM.

It seems like Pontiac was actually turning around with the G8 and was getting a little street cred back, sad to see it go. But I won't miss the grand am, aztec, G5, torrent, or solstice.

Why the hell did they think it would be a good idea to have 8 divisions anyway?

IMPORTED HOLDENS? Awesome! Maybe some Vauxhalls? They look better than the G8 anyway.

Or give the impala some balls again?:p

I have to agree with a lot what you're saying here, but why even keep the GMC brand? They are nothing more than re-badged Chevy trucks anyway. Toyota didn't seek out a new brand identity when they got into the big truck market - they've stuck to 3 brands which cater to specific markets:

                    Toyota - cars, trucks, suvs
                    Lexus - the luxury brand
                    Scion - the economy brand

Plenty of levels of 'structure' with this organization. Come to think of the GM scenario....why have Buick and Caddy for your luxury brand? Seems a bit much. They should keep the brand that commands more sales/profits and drop the other one. If GM wanted take a stab at the Toyota marketing approach they could adapt the following:

                    Chevy - cars, trucks, suvs
Caddy - the luxury market (some rebadged Chevy models and marque specific offerings)
Saturn - the economy brand (possible hybrid line)

So that's my armchair-quarterback version of how I'd do it.

GM invented the idea of "divisions".

Anyone ever hear "Divided we stand" used as a phrase?

                      I didn't think so.

America was clamoring for better quality and better price for most of 40 years now. Fat lazy arrogant bastards from the top to the bottom. They should have listened, they should have some something...instead, we have the collapse of the industry WE built.

I would love to drive a 20 year old American car and love it every day, as I do my E30. Damn near 300,000 miles and it still sees redline every time I drive it.

                      Sorry, guys.
